Perhaps you might be wondering why is my blog called Up From Stroke?

Well, here’s a quick story of how I arrived at this name.

On 23 Jan 2016, I was admitted to the hospital early in the morning for a suspected case of stroke as I fainted in the middle of the night after waking up from a very bad headache which was the result of a bleeding in my brain.

According to my mum, when I was rushed to the hospital in the ambulance, my blood pressure was 200+/150+ which was crazily high for an individual and that could spell death if nothing is done about it.

When I arrived at the hospital, the doctors were dressed in surgical gowns, all ready to operate on me.

They decided to wait for a few hours to see whether my bleeding will stop but it didn’t.

After much deliberation, my brother told the surgeons to operate on me as my mother couldn’t make the decision. She was afraid that my head would be deformed after the operation.

However, if I am not operated within 4 hours, the outcome may be undesirable. I could end up becoming a vegetable.

I am very grateful to my brother for having the courage to make that decision.

Otherwise, I wouldn’t have the chance to write this post.

I woke up from my coma on 7 Feb 2016, which is exactly 2 weeks after the operation.

I couldn’t recognise anyone.

I could barely walk and required 4 nurses to support me to visit the bathroom whenever I needed to go.

It felt horrible… as though my life has ended…

Thankfully, I had a great mentor, friends, family members and most importantly, my mum, whom I could count on throughout this journey of recovery, which is filled with self-doubt at times.

I was discharged from the hospital on my birthday, 23 Feb 2016.

Why did I start this blog?

The purpose of this blog is to give hope, insights, inspiration and encouragement to people who feel down and out in their lives and are looking for a way to experience their life totally through my personal experiences.

It also serves as a resource base for readers who would like to empower a certain aspect of their life to have a total human experience.

The realisation that I had from that near-death encounter was “I have come to this world with nothing and I will leave this world with nothing as well”.

“There is nothing to gain, nothing to lose in this life, you came with nothing, whatever the hell is happening, you are on the profit side” – this quote is by Sadhguru, who has impacted me in many ways with his teachings.

Since I was given a second chance to live, I would like to explore every dimension of life and have a total human experience with my remaining time on planet Earth.

I invite you to join me on this journey of self-discovery as I share with you the various distinctions that I got from my personal life experiences through daily living, reading, listening and associating with successful people from all walks of life.

Disclaimer: I am still a work in progress, and I don’t know everything. All that I know are things that I have done and experienced personally.
